Ryan Reynolds Admits Being Away from His Kids Sometimes Makes Him 'Die Inside'

Although many of Ryan Reynolds' family members were in the latest deadpool installment, he's not quite sure if he's willing to make another.

The actor, 48, spoke with Andrew Garfield for Variety's Actors on Actors series in a video that went live on Monday, Dec. 9 and revealed whether he'd ever take more time away from his four kids — as well as wife Blake Lively — to make a fourth deadpool movie.

“My feeling is that character works very well in two ways. One is scarcity and surprise,” Reynolds said as he discussed the third installment, Deadpool & Wolverinewhich came out this past summer.

“It had been six years since the last one and part of the reason is that it swallows my whole life. You can't take your hand off the stick all the way through development, through postproduction into marketing and promo, and then you kind of (stop.)”

As he thought about his kids — daughters James, 9, Inez, 7, and Betty, 4, and son Olin, whom he welcomed in February 2023 — Reynolds noted, “I don't ever want to be an absentee, and I don 't ever want to miss stuff.”

“I, like, kind of die inside when I see their face and they have a competition or they have a sports thing or something and I missed it,” he added.

In November, Reynolds was interviewed by Deadline and spoke about how his good friend Taylor Swift publicly shared that she was godmother to his kids earlier this summer when she posted about his movie Deadpool & Wolverine.

“Shout out to Wade Wilson, aka my godkids' sperm donor!” the “Cruel Summer” singer wrote in the caption of her post, referencing Reynolds' character Deadpool's real name.

“I'm going to need that on my gravestone, actually,” Reynolds told Deadline of the post.

“Yeah, that's kind of it. She is the godparent to my daughters,” he continued. “That was very sweet. Not just sweet, that was, like, you could probably quantify a box office based on Taylor just doing something like that.”
