Lil Rel Howery Says Being Dad of 7 Is 'Most Fascinating Part of My Life' (Exclusive)

Lil Rel Howery has a full house, and he is loving every moment of it.

While attending the Micheaux Film Festival in Culver City, Calif. on Sunday, Oct. 27, the comedian, 44, opened up about his home life, which now consists of a total of seven kids.

And the comedian says having a big family has been the ride of a lifetime.

“It's been amazing. Honestly. It's been something very different, but beautifully different. Probably something I'm gonna end up writing about someday either in my comedy or in a show or movie,” Howery tells PEOPLE exclusively.

“That blended family, it could be really beautiful,” he raves. “Especially a blended Black family. Every day is a new challenge but a good challenge and I love that me and my wife be having these deep discussions.”

And while Howery is no stranger to being a girl dad, the idea of having five girls under one roof can be daunting to some, but he has fully embraced that as well.

“It's a lot of emotions. It's been interesting and I'm excited,” he says. “Really, I can't wait to tell more of that story soon because it's very interesting and very important being the new male in these situations.”

The actor also recalled having a heartfelt talk with Lane's daughters about the position he would be playing in their lives.

“I remember one of our (first) real talks we had was I asked them, what (they're) looking for from me right? As a dad? And so it is really interesting. This is probably the most fascinating part of my life ever. And I'm like, I love people so much and I love to write such an experience. It's kind of blowing my mind. So we'll see.”

Howery, who was being honored with the Oscar Micheaux Trailblazer of Excellence Award was accompanied by his wife and kids for the event.

While at the Black Love Summitt earlier this month, the Get Out The actor also revealed that he reached out and had a heartfelt conversation about kids and family with Cory Hardrict amid his divorce from Tia Mowry.

“I knew you were going through some things,” Howry recalled to Hardrict, 44. “I just wanted to reach out to another dad, another brother, and we just talked. We met at one of the little sports bars I like to go We just sat there, and we just talked.”

The Carmichael Show The alum told attendees that one of his favorite qualities about Hardrict is “how much he loves his children.” Hardrict and Mowry share two kids — son Cree, 13, and daughter, Cairo, 6.

“No matter what us adults are going through, we've got to consider how they're seeing it. I just thought it was beautiful, just with Black men (talking about their children),” Howry continued. “We're in a sports bar having an emotional conversation. Trying to watch the Lakers, tears coming out of (our eyes). We are dads.”
