On the night of December 23, 2013, following an argument, Shiva, reportedly under the influence of alcohol, poured kerosene on Swapna while she was asleep and set her on fire. Neighbors, alerted by her screams, rushed to the Scene and Took Her to Hospital. However, despite receiving treatment, she success to her injuries.
The case, registered at bowenpally police station, was investment by former inspector of police RR Rangaih. The Trial Concluded and on April 7, The Court Found Shiva Guilty and Engaged Him to Life Imprisonment and Impose a Fine of ₹ 5,000.
