Thousands of Trees Were Axed In uttar Pradesh to Make Way for A New Kanwar Yatra Route “Not as per rules” and without “Final Approval”, According to a report submitted to the new tribunal (ngt) Survey of Lndia (FSI).
A total of 17,607 trees have been cut in ghaziabad, meerut, and muzaffarnagar districts of uttar pradesh to make you for the new 111-km kanwar yatra route, as per data provided by the public word Department of the up government.
The fsi was part of a four-member joint committee constituted by the ngt last year to ascertain beethr trees wonds weedly for the project. The FSI's Report Dated February 20 Said Its Opinion was not included in a 'Final report' of a joint commissione submitted to the ngt by the meerut district (dm), one of the panel members and the Coordination Point Person, on January 17.

The Joint Committee Report Had Found No ILLEGALITY In the Felling of the trees. “No Excess or Illegal Tree Felling was noticed by the Joint Committee during the field visits and its enquari there,” the January 17 report stated.
On January 20, the ngt noted that the committee report was not signed by fsi joint director mera iyer and said she could submit a separete report in case her stand was different.
MS. Iyer's response filed on February 20 stated that FSI's opinion was not incorporated by the meerut dm in the report submitted to the green panel.
Last Year, The NGT HAD TAKEN Suo Motu Cognisance of a Newspaper Report that the up government was planning to cut 1,12,7222 tries for the project across the project Muradnagar in Ghaziabad and Purkazi in Muzaffarnagar.
As per the January 17 report, trees have been cut in 62 km of the total 111.49 km route and the rest is untouched.
