Hello Dalai Lama,
Well Hello, Dalai Lama,
It's so nice to have you here while China's doing wrong,
You're looking swell, Dalai Lama,
We can tell, Dalai Lama,
You're still glowin', you're still crowin'
You're still going strong.
We feel the World swayin'
While your monks are saying,
One of your old fav'rite songs from 'way back when, ….

Can you picture a Mel Brook's musical?

Karita, Kim, Farah, James, and I headed off to Dalai Lama's exiled home this weekend. We had Monday off because Delhi is celebrating Eid this weekend.

According to Wikipedia, “Eid ul-Fitr is a Muslim holiday celebrated when Ramadan, the month of fasting, ends. Muslims do not fast on Eid ul-Fitr. When you see the new moon after Ramadan, the next day is Eid ul-Fitr. Eid ul-Fitr lasts 3 days. In this festival, children knock on doors and take chocolate, money, sugar from the other people. Kids kiss adults' hands. Everyone visits each other. People forgive each other.” http://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eid_ul-Fitr

Happy Eid to our Muslim friends!!

Wikipedia explains that the “town of McLeod Ganj in Upper Dharamshala is known worldwide for the teachings of His Holiness the Dalai Lama that take place

here every year. It is also his residence. Dharamsala houses the headquarters of the Tibetan Government in exile about two kilometers below the town of MCLeod Ganj. McLeodGanj is also referred to as 'Upper Dharamshala'.

The best Italian Restaurant in McLeodGanj is Nick's Italian Restaurant in Kunga Guest House, Bhagsunag Rd. Try the pumpkin ravioli.

Best Pizza in McLeod Ganj is in the café inside the Buddhist Temple in McLeod Ganj. In fact, this is the best pizza that I have had in India since my arrival in February 2007. Try the roquefort-walnut-tomato pizza.

Chonor House had a very pleasant lunch. This is the Guest House where Richard Gere allegedly stays whenever he is in town to chat it up with the Dalai Lama.

If you are wondering how much money to bring for three days, we spent about $150 (USD) including food and lodging. The airline tickets cost $200 roundtrip, per person, from Delhi.
