Sterling Rotary Parallel Music Festival inaugurated

The parallel music festival is an inspiring event that brings out uplifting stories of Carnatic artistes, who endured against various physical disabilities, and succeeded, said N. Murali, president of The Music Academy and Director of The Hindu Group Publishing Private Limited.

Mr. Murali was inaugurating the 20th edition of the Sterling Rotary Parallel Music Fest 2024 held at The Music Academy on Monday. He appreciated the work of the Rotary Club of Madras Coromandel and Karna Vidya Foundation.

Congratulating the awardees, Carnatic musician and Sangeeta Kalanidhi designate TM Krishna said these awards were about the amount of positivity these artists share. He said for creating art there should be a shared passion among artists that they could vouch for.

The Life Time Achievement Awards 2021-24 were conferred on Carnatic vocalists SR Krishnamurthy and PP Ramakrishnan, and mridangist Guruvayur Dorai. The Distinguished Musician Award 2023-24 was presented to mridangam artist Valangaiman Thiagarajan and violinist Coimbatore S. Usha.

Promising music awards were presented to Carnatic vocalist Akshaya Parthasarathy and violinist Jyothi Kalai. Ashok Rangarajan, president of Rotary Club of Madras Coromandel, was present.
