Quinta Brunson is sharing more insight around the hotly anticipated Abbott Elementary and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia crossover. And in doing so, she knows the episode won't be for everyone.
The Abbott Elementary star and showrunner talked to PEOPLE on Saturday, Oct. 26 at the EMA Awards Gala, where she revealed what fans can expect from the highly anticipated episode. She recalled when the idea first came about, which she explained was a complete accident.
“There was a silly thing online I think that someone sent to Rob McElhenney and said, 'This seems like an Always Sunny episode,” she explained. “And then, he said, 'It seems more like an Abbott episode. It got Rob and I talking, and the episode is not about that thing, but Rob and I really got along.”
“More than anything, I think that was important that I got along with the lead creator of that show, and we saw a world in which we could bring our shows together since they are both in Philadelphia,” she continued. “It was really simple and people are confused, but I think it works really well and it helps that we're all under the Disney umbrella, so it hasn't been as painful as it could have been.”
As for whether she gets to let loose during the crossover special, Brunson said yes.
“Yeah, my mom's not going to be allowed to watch that,” she jokes.

Danny DeVito shared a similar sentiment with PEOPLE earlier this month, saying that there are “lots of surprises.”
“I think we get a little wild in the show for them, but they're handling us pretty well,” he laughed adding, “We had a great time. They're wonderful people. It's such an odd mix, so it's going to be fun.”
In early October, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia star and creator McElhenney announced the crossover on social media. A post shows McElhenney, Charlie Day and Brunson in front of the iconic Abbott Elementary school gave fans a sneak peek into what was coming.
More photos in the series showed McElhenney, Day and Brunson with DeVito and Abbott stars Tyler James Williams and William Stanford DavisThe group stood with their arms crossed near the doors of the school with the “Willard R. Abbott Public School” sign in the background.
“Oh. Hello,” he captioned the post.
Hulu then commented on the post, “The gang goes to Abbott Elementary,” confirming the news.
Abbott Elementary airs on Wednesdays at 9:30 pm ET on ABC, while FXX's It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia can be streamed in full on Hulu.
