Tuesday 28th September (cont)…

Later that same day, fueled with a bit of dutch courage and convinced that we'd been imbued with some local knowledge through the consumption of a Kangaroo, Crocodile and Barramundi mixed grill, we decided to enter a local pub quiz. Most of our answers consisted of a stock phrase “take pity on us we're Poms”. This earnt us absolutely no sympathy and suffice to say we ranked towards the lower end of the scoring spectrum.

Wednesday 29th September

Got up early to pick up our campervan and start our journey into the wilderness. First stop Adelaide River Township where we parked up and took a trek to Robin Falls. (Hadn't seen a vehicle for hours, until Han got changed in the back of the camper and as if by magic, the vehicular tours carrying spectators appeared for a good bum shot). Robin Falls was in the middle of nowhere; as we marched bravely on and the terrain became more difficult to manage, and the temperature got hotter and hotter, we began to wonder whether this was such a good idea. However, when we reached the spot it was so peaceful and isolated (noone

else was mad enough to trek there in this weather) that it was gorgeous.

After a long soak under the waterfall, we headed to our first official overnight stop since becoming Truckers (Dave's already started doing that thing that truck drivers do where they wave or honk at other people driving the same type of vehicle). Stayed at Pandamus on the outskirts of Litchfield National Park where the owners lent us their fan and a game of Trivial Pursuit (score 1:1).

Thursday 30th September – Litchfield National Park.
Before heading to explore Litchfield National Park, we stopped at a town called Batchelor and bought the last fan in the shop (which also means irt was the last fan available in the whole town) – Phew! Litchfield Park is amazing and I'm pretty much going to let the pictures speak for themselves. First stop Buley Rockholes for a swim and a bit of a slide from pool to pool (great fun). After Buley we drove a few km to Florence Falls. Young kids were jumping about 30m from the top of the falls into the lake below. Dave and I both secretly wanted to have a go but were

a bit scared and there were loads of people watching. Therefore, we contented ourselves with a lovely swim.

Final stop in Litchfield was Wangi Falls. After reading the croc warning signs, we jumped straight in and swam the length of the lake. This is not quite as foolish, or indeed as brave, as it sounds as apparently there are only fresh water crocs during this season, whose diet consists of 40 percent insects and 20 percent fish. It wasn't until I reached the other side that I realized there's 20 percent outstanding which could quite easily be made up of fingers/toes. However, we survived with everything in tact. We then took a stroll through the surrounding rainforest which was full of bats…and massive ones at that.

On to Litchfield tourist camp where we set up the campervan (now lovingly known as Junior) with ease. We are really getting used to the camping life now and Dave cooked lamb casserole for tea. Mmm.
